Audrey Darkin

Audrey joined Pye in 1932, at a wage of 4 and 3/4d per hour (less than £1 per week). In 1935 she became Pye's first Personnel Manager, a post she held for the next 40 years.

Known as 'the mother of thousands ', over the years she recruited literally thousands of Pye workers.

After the war she introduced many new initiatives, including setting up the 'Works Bus' scheme to bring workers into Cambridge, a crèche, and novel recruitment campaigns.

She retired in 1975.
