Tom became Works Manager of WG Pye in 1911 and a partner in 1919.

Known as ‘three brains’ because he had so many ideas and ‘tear arse’ because he rushed around at great speed, he designed the iconic ‘Rising Sun’ motif on the radio cabinets.

In 1928, he became Joint Managing Director of Pye Radio, responsible for production, managing the rapid growth in production as radio sales soared.

But he clashed with CO Stanley over the way Stanley wanted to develop the business and resigned in 1937.
