Donald (Beau) Jackson

‘Beau’ joined Pye in 1935.

He was eccentric to the extent he became known as ‘mad’ Jackson, apparently once removing doors in his house so he could move around more quickly!

Nonetheless he was a most talented mechanical engineer, credited with many important designs.

During the war, he played a key role in developing the Proximity Fuze and invented a vital coaxial plug, known as the ‘Pye Plug’.

Afterwards, he led the mechanical design team on the emerging TV transmission, TV camera and OB Van work which became Pye TVT.
