BJ Edwards

BJ was an electrical engineer who joined Pye in 1935 from STC, inspired by CO Stanley’s vision for Pye. He led the TV development team.

In 1939 he led the design work on the famous EF 50 valve and, during the war, worked on radar and the proximity fuze.

He became Pye’s Technical Director, and, in 1951, a Main Board Director.

Known as ‘temperamental, overbearing, and often foul mouthed’, he was full of ideas and energy, and got things done.

In 1960, he died suddenly aged 47.
