John Stubbens


John Stubbens was one of three brothers.

One of his brothers, Sidney William John Stubbens was a foreman at the Cambridge Instrument Company. Along with his two brothers, he formed Unicam Instruments Ltd at Arbury Road, Cambridge in 1934. They specialised in designing scientific instruments, particularly for use in schools and colleges.

Acquired by the Pye company in 1947, Unicam Instruments, merged with WG Pye Ltd in 1968. The new company, Pye Unicam Ltd, was focused on the design and manufacture of laboratory analytical equipment.

The original company name was an abbreviation of University of Cambridge.
