Don joined Pye in 1949, moving to the Pye Upper Research Laboratory a year later.
A visionary and gifted electronics engineer, he designed many novel products, including the first electronic Private Branch Telephone Exchange (PABX).
He ran Telecom’s Telemetry Laboratory and later pioneered its Digital Laboratory.
He was Pye Telecom’s best technical troubleshooter, with 100 per cent success rate on technical problems.
He left Pye to set up his own electronics business, but was persuaded to re-join Telecom, where he worked until his retirement.
