John Stanley

John, CO Stanley’s son, read Mechanical Sciences at Cambridge University.

In 1948, he became Joint Managing Director of Pye Telecom, having responsibility for development and production.

Appointed to the Main Board of Pye in 1955, he was moved to manage Pye’s Merchandising, a post not well suited to his engineering skills and experience.

Pye was late getting into the TV rental business. So John set up a deal with the Gibbard Group. This proved to be an expensive mistake.

In 1966 he was dismissed from his role as Deputy Chairman.
