The MX294 was the first Pye Telecom volume production synthesised radiotelephone. The unit was sold with either Pye or Philips branding.

Up to this point in time, all radiotelephones utilised custom-made quartz crystals to determine the operating frequency of transmitter and receiver.

The MX294, followed later by the MX293 and MX296, introduced a high performance digital frequency synthesiser to generate up to 256 operating frequencies.

Transmitter power output 6-25 Watts.

The worlds 1st microprocessor controlled family of synthesised FM mobile radiotelephones.

Both dash-mount, remote-mount and battery powered transportable versions were available. The FM900 was designed and manufactured in Australia and later produced in France, Spain and UK.

Later, when the Olympic based M252 mobile ceased production, the FM914PM version was used by the British Army in the UK Project Mould home defence network.

A broadband VHF or UHF frequency synthesised, microprocessor controlled mobile with a choice of three operator control heads.

This advanced and compact design could transmit and receive on any frequency within a radio band under software control, due to its advanced broadband circuit design.

The equipment could be configured as a dash-mount or remote mount mobile, and could be fitted into a stylish battery transportable pack.

The compact design PRM80 brought all of the high performance benefits of the FM900 and FM1000 series products into the lower cost commercial markets.

Designed and manufactured in Australia and also produced in India and UK, the PRM80 was available in a 9 channel version or a 40 channel version.

A remote-mount version was later added to the range.

Originally, and not very long ago, a mobile phone was a large equipment the size of one or two house bricks.

The PR50 was an example of a mobile phone of the late 1980s to early 1990s.

This was before the necessary electronic circuit functions could be packed into the shirt-pocket size mobile phones available today.

The last radio produced by the group for the UK-only TACS cellular radio network, before the universal GSM standard was adopted worldwide.

The stylish AP4000 could be configured as a mobile installation or removed and fitted into a transportable battery pack as shown here.

In the 21st Century, just as cellular radio and mobile phones moved to advanced digital systems, so did professional Private Mobile Radio (PMR) users.

In the early 2000s Police, Public Safety & Government Agencies began to move to the nationwide BT Airwave Tetra radio system.

By 2005 a majority were using this digital system and the private mobile radiotelephone industry which Pye began in 1946 was changed forever.
