System Control in the 1980/90s

M80 Series Controllers

1980

M80 series Controllers

This was a new family of small to medium capacity desk-top controllers for use in operator controlled two-way radio systems.

• M81 - control of a single fixed station

• M82 – control of two fixed stations

• M87 – control of up to 13 radio channels by up to 10 operators

A separate rack cabinet held the common equipment for telephone line or radio interfacing between the desk-top controller and the remote fixed station sites.

Fixed Station & System Control

Fixed Station & System Control

This is a vast subject, and many other technologies and items of equipment contribute to the subject:

• ASSORT – automatic site selection

• VOGAD – voice operated gain control

• Tone sequential signalling

• Continuous tone coded squelch system

• FFSK digital signalling

• MPT1343 digital channel allocation (trunking)

• Data communications and vehicle location

• Tetra

As did the engineers and other staff of the Pye Radio Systems Division and the Pye Service Department.
